ELAN102        Advanced English Grammar
               Credits: 3 (3,0,0)    Prerequisites: None
                   The  course  is  designed  to  provide  students  with  the  grammar  skills  necessary  for  success  in
                   professional,  academic,  and  social  situations.  The  course  will  deepen  students’  insights  into
                   English grammar and the linguistic analysis of English. The course helps students improve their
                   ability to interpret what they read and express themselves accurately orally and in writing. It
                   includes study of editing, active/ passive voice, verb tenses, modals and modal-like expressions,
                   conditionals,  the  subjunctive,  phrases,  clauses,  and  different  kinds  of  transitions.  The  course
                   emphasizes grammatical fluency in English speech and writing.

               ELAN103        Critical Media Literacy
               Credits: 3  (3,0,0)   Prerequisites: None
                   This  course  equips  students  with  the  analytical  skills  needed  to  critically  engage  with  media
                   messages  in  a  digital  and  globalized  world.  It  explores  how  media  shape  public  perception,
                   construct social realities, and influence cultural and political discourses. Students will examine
                   issues such as media bias, propaganda, representation, misinformation, and the role of corporate
                   and political interests in media production. Through hands-on activities and critical discussions,
                   students will develop the ability to deconstruct media texts, assess credibility, and become more
                   informed and responsible media consumers and creators.

               ELAN104        Analytic Reading and Writing
               Credits: 3 (3, 0, 0)   Prerequisites: ENG101
                   This  course  aims  to  fulfill  the  reading  and  writing  needs  of  students  of  the  translation  and
                   linguistics major. The course integrates reading and essay writing skills at the upper-intermediate
                   level. It equips students with vital academic vocabulary that can improve their writing skills and
                   enable them to write at a higher thinking level. The skills gained on this course will enable students
                   to link writing well to reading related texts and analyzing them artistically which will improve their
                   creative and critical thinking skills in their essay writing.
               ELAN107        English Grammar I
               Credits: 3 (3, 0, 0)   Prerequisites: ENG012
                   This course aims at preparing students to apply English grammar in formal contexts at an upper-
                   intermediate level. The course integrates different kinds of activities to bridge the gap between
                   basic knowledge of grammatical structure and its applications. It is designed to help students
                   enhance their understanding of English grammar, expand their already learned skills and enable
                   them to apply it in their usage of English. The course will review parts of speech and their function,
                   different verb tenses, active and passive voice, and types of clauses.

               ELAN108        English Grammar II
               Credits: 3 (3, 0, 0)   Prerequisites: ELAN107
                   This  course  builds  on  the  skills  learned  in  ELAN107  ENG  Grammar  and  raises  the  students’
                   grammar skills to the advanced level.  The course aims at building the students’ grammar skills
                   that are based on practical rather than theoretical considerations. Areas covered in the course
                   include real and unreal conditionals, direct - indirect speech, specification of numbers in English,
                   use of certain modals, negatives and types of questions.
