Computer Skills Training (CST) Program

Catalog Description:
1) Introduction to ITCS & its policies
2) IT Facilities at PSU
3) A workshop on each of the following:
- Computer Systems
- Microsoft Windows
- Microsoft Office
- The internet browsers
- World Wide Web
4) Hands-on laboratory experiences to supplement the workshops

Prerequisite Skills
None

Expected Outcome
Upon completion of (1) through (4) the attendee should be able to:
1. Identify various IT facilities that PSU provides for its community;
2. Learn about the new policies of use;
3. Identify the components of a Computer System and the function of each;
4. Identify the major software applications packages and what they do;
5. Learn the common features of the MS Windows operating system;
6. Create and organize files and folders using Windows Explorer and My Computer;
7. Formulate and create business documents such as letters, memos, and flyers using MS Word;
8. Formulate and create an MS Excel spreadsheet and chart;
9. Create a slide presentation using MS PowerPoint;
10. Understand what a browser does and be able to perform basic navigation over the World Wide Web and take further advantage of the Internet;
11. Perform basic email tasks such as sending, receiving, and managing electronic mail using MS Outlook;
12. Identify and discuss current ethical and security issues affecting the World-Wide-Web and software Piracy;

3. Demonstrations
4. Hands-on exercises in the laboratory
