An overview of computer networks, their evolution, architectures, transmission media, layering models and classification. Fundamentals of data communication protocols and related algorithms , error and flow control, network layer issues, routing algorithms, the IP protocol, IP addressing, internetworking, transport layer issues, the TCP and UDP protocols, congestion and flow control, application layer protocols: DNS, HTTP & WWW, SMTP and e-mail protocols.
