About:
This class is a overview (definitions, evolutions, examples, and, applications) of decision support systems. Decision theory. Organizational systems. Unstructured problem solving. Introduction to modeling techniques such as linear programming, forecasting, and, simulation. Decision support system construction. Introduction to group decision support systems, executive information systems, and expert systems.

Course Policies:
This course is a 4 contact hours course and we shall be meeting four times weekly. The weekly schedule would be as follows:
  • Sat- Sun-Tue 11-11.50 PM: Lecture(s) would be delivered. Notes would be posted on this website in advance
  • Wednesday 11.00-11.50 AM: Tutorial class would be given as needed. Tutorial statement would be posted on this page before the class.

Attendance in all classes is of utmost importance. DN limit is 12 absences

Project:
Students are required to design and develop a Decision support system. The project will be carried out in three phases at equal intervals. The submission of project will involve design of the DSS system, design and implementation of Decision models and analysis of data for decision making. The project involves extensive programming in .NET environment and using a data analysis tool to create reports.
  Project phase 1. Due on 29 Feb 2012 <P1.pdf file> weight 5%
Project phase 2. Due on 21 April 2012 <P2.pdf file> weight 12%
Project phase 3. Due in week 15 <p3.pdf> weight 8%

Term Paper: (DUE 22 March 2012)
Students will be required to search and read recently published research articles in a research area related to Decision Support Systems. A term paper will be produced highlighting the summary of papers read.
